Abstract:
The study was mainly on the performance calculation of gas turbine engine to generate electricity through the reduction gear, to the alternator. The variations of design point (DP) parameters such as (Ambient Temperature T1, Combustion Temperature T3, Pressure ratio of compressor rpc and turbine rpt, Efficiencies of compressor η_c and turbine η_t, Heat Rate, inlet ducting and silencers, exhaust ducting) on the performance of GT generator were analysed. The design and development of this expert system will utilize software engineering approach instead of prototyping approach. The program and the programming language used for the Graphic user interface (GUI) and to encode the mathematical models are Microsoft Visual Basic and c-sharp respectively. The study reveals that the use of gas turbine engine to generate electricity in Nigeria is very low. Also, the variation of some design point (DP) parameters will affect the overall thermal efficiency of GT Generator. The study concluded that, the electricity problem in Nigeria can only be solved if more operational GT power plant can be commission.
