Abstract:
This paper presents a prototype of a Diagnostic Expert System for High Blood Pressure in Pregnancy to be designed using SWI- PROLOG. It is a rule-based medical expert system that supports diagnostic decisions in Hypertension in Pregnancy (HIP) and that could be used for training physicians and guiding them to accurately perform all diagnostic procedures and assist in management decision-making. Though the system is designed for Kenya, it is applicable in developing countries especially in rural and urban areas, where expertise in obstetrics is wanting or lacking yet expectant women continue to die or develop complications due to Hypertension in Pregnancy. The diagnostic expert system will be carefully tested and , evaluated after which it will be presented to doctors as new tool for delivering high-quality, standard and individually adapted health care and improve information sharing in the medical fraternity.
