Abstract:
The advent of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is spreading in every aspect of our lives. Every nation of the world (including Nigeria) needs ICT for effective dissemination of information and facilitator of good governance in every stage and aspect of their governance. These new technologies are changing the way we live and work, and they are transforming many aspects of social and economic organization in ways we could have hardly imagined less than two decades ago. ICTs offer developing countries formidable and cost-effective tools for accelerated development. This paper presentation assesses the role that ICTs can play in Nigeria’s development with special emphasis on governance. It summarizes the uses of ICTs in governance and discusses possible risks. It also attempts to offer ideas that should be considered in employing ICTs for governance. This Research is conducted as a result of the importance of ICT in good governance system and secondary data collection was employed. The objectives of this study are to provide a comprehensive review of the role of ICT in Nigeria governance, assess the levels of its implementation and suggest positive steps to be taken towards effective and efficient ICT implementation in Nigeria Governance System.
