Abstract:
Birth and death registration is an important exercise in any nation which assists the citizens and leaders in knowing the rate at which its population grows and its size. Having an accurate population size of any State and nation assists the leaders in building and planning the community or nation and in ensuring that every citizen is well taken care of in its budget / decision making. To achieve this, an effective system of vital registration is critical and needs to be in place for proper data collection and keeping. In Delta State in particular and Nigeria at large, the citizens and leaders rely on census and population projection in its planning and does not know the actual number of people delivered or dies in the country, the cause of the death, rate of morality, etc. as most births and deaths are not recorded. The effect of the current birth and death registration in Delta State, Nigeria gave birth to this work which will be centering on automated birth and death registration system using distributed database system in Delta State, Nigeria. The objective of this study is to implement a vital registration system using distributed database system in every local government, hospitals, mortuaries, etc. which will enable all births and deaths in every locality to be captured. This will result in providing timely and reliable information on births, deaths, the rate of population growth, population size, etc. for swift decision making. This research is done centering on Delta State in Nigeria.
