Abstract:
In this paper, a three-phase induction motor drive system operating under different operating conditions has been modeled, simulated and efficiency-optimized. Maximum efficiency was found based on search model control and PIC microcontroller. The control command in the optimized system is the optimum modulation index, corresponding to minimum power losses (maximum efficiency) in the system. The effect of high-order harmonic content in the inverter output voltage has been taken into consideration during the construction of the model of AC-to-AC energy converter. From simulation results, it was noticed that, despite the improvement in efficiency, the slip increases due to implemented optimization technique. For this reason, a PI slip compensator has been introduced into the system to maintain the slip within the rated value. This action gave additional increase in efficiency due to decrease in the losses in the rotor circuit. The proposed optimization technique can be used for online tuning of induction motor operation under different operating conditions.
